Privacy Policy

Reila is a driving-school platform built in South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to follow the principles of South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
1. Who we are
Reila Africa (“Reila”, “we”, “our”) operates the platform available at reila.africa and on each driving school's subdomain. Driving schools that use Reila are independent businesses; we are the technology provider that powers their student experience, instructor tools, and admin.
2. What we collect
- Account info: name, email, phone number, profile photo (if you sign in with Google).
- Learning data: K53 mock-test results, practice attempts, study progress.
- School data (when enrolled): lesson bookings, payments, instructor notes, vehicle preferences, pickup addresses you provide.
- Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, pages you visit on Reila.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and the features you sign up for.
- To share necessary information with the driving school you're enrolled at (e.g. your contact details so they can WhatsApp you about lessons).
- To send you transactional notifications (lesson confirmations, payment receipts, password resets).
- To improve Reila — anonymised usage data helps us see which features matter and which don't.
4. Who we share it with
Your driving school (only the data they need to teach you and run their business), our hosting provider (Vercel) and database provider (Supabase). We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We use Google for optional sign-in and only receive what Google provides: your name, email, and profile picture.
5. Where it lives
Reila's database is hosted on Supabase infrastructure. Files like profile photos and school logos are stored in the same provider. Vercel hosts the application code.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal info within 30 days. Anonymised aggregate data (e.g. “how many students passed K53 this month”) may be retained indefinitely.
7. Your rights
- See what we have on you — request a copy by emailing hello@reila.africa.
- Correct anything that's wrong — most things you can update directly in your profile.
- Delete your account — email us, we'll process within 30 days.
- Opt out of WhatsApp / email notifications — toggle in your profile settings (when enrolled at a school).
8. Cookies
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies for authentication (so you stay signed in across pages) and tenant routing (so masindi.reila.africa knows it's Masindi). We don't use third-party tracking or advertising cookies.
9. Children
Reila is intended for users 17 years and older (the SA learner's licence age). We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
10. Changes
When this policy changes we'll update the “Effective” date at the top and notify you in-app if the change is material.
